# Overview

YellowAnt is a workplace assistant bot that lets you manage and automate your work. YellowAnt is available as a standalone web application and as a bot on Slack and Microsoft Teams. It connects with your workplace applications like Task Management, Email, Calendar, Cloud Storage, Code Repositories, Application and Server monitoring, Incident Management, CI/CD and most DevOps tools and gets you real time updates from all your apps. These updates also come with interactive action buttons and action forms, so that you can take immediate actions whenever you get an alert.

Since YellowAnt is connected to all your apps, you can create cross application workflows that can be triggered by a YellowAnt command or a background event from one of your apps. # How to Signup

YellowAnt accounts exist within teams. All individuals in the team creates their own account within the YellowAnt team.

There are three ways to sign up on YellowAnt:

* Using Slack
* Using Microsoft Teams (Coming Soon)
* Using Email

This is covered in detail in their respective sections.

**How do YellowAnt teams work?**

Let's take an example.\
A member of team ACME is signing up on YellowAnt for the first time. He creates a team called acme-team on YellowAnt. The URL for the team is acme-team.yellowant.com and anyone from the same team would be in the same YellowAnt team as well. This is because all YellowAnt accounts (Basic, Premium or Enterprise) are billed at a team level.

The team URL looks like this:

**How does it work when using Slack?**

In a Slack team, when one of the team members signs up on YellowAnt, a new YellowAnt team with the same subdomain is created. Now, whenever a member of that Slack team joins YellowAnt, they are automatically part of the same YellowAnt team. This is because of the same reason i.e. billing takes place at a team level.

For example, the acme-team on slack has a corresponding acme-team on YellowAnt when signing up using Slack.

If Slack team URL is:

# Signup with Slack

Slack users can directly signup with their slack accounts by clicking on the “Sign Up with Slack”. After which you will be asked to log in your slack account. If you are already logged in your slack account then it will directly lead you to the authorization page, where after just once click you are good to go.

YellowAnt will create a team account with the same domain name as your Slack domain and makes your Slack Team owner the owner of the YellowAnt team account.

Let's take a look at the step by step process for signing up using Slack:

1. Go to [www.yellowant.com](http://www.yellowant.com) and click on "Sign Up using Slack" or "Sign Up" in the header. <br>

2\. If you clicked on the direct Slack Sign Up button, it takes you to the "Authorization" page and by clicking on the "Sign Up" button in the header, you are taken to a page where you have the option on Slack or Email. Click on "Sign Up with Slack"

3\. Select your team on top right corner and click on "Authorize" once you've read the permissions.

4\. You will be taken to the YellowAnt dashboard where you can start integrating applications.

# Signup with MS Teams

Microsoft Teams users can directly import the YellowAnt bot into a team by adding YellowAnt from the Teams bot marketplace. You will be asked to authorize your Azure account, after which YellowAnt will create a team account(connected to your Office 365 tenant) with the same domain name as your Azure email domain. If you are the first one from your Office 365 directory to integrate YellowAnt, YellowAnt will make you the owner of the YellowAnt team account - in this case, you will need your Tenant administrator to create an account and transfer the YellowAnt team account.

Let's take a look at the step by step process for signing up using Teams:

1. Let us first add YellowAnt to a team. Go to Microsoft Teams, and click on the \[**...]** button next to your Team name in the sidebar. (**Note:** If YellowAnt is already added to a Team, simply go to **Chat sidebar tab,** and search for **YellowAnt** and add it. Start a conversation with YellowAnt by typing **- help.** YellowAnt will send you an authentication message. Go directly to Step 6.)
2. Click on **Manage Team**
3. Click on the **Bot** tab. In the tab, click on **Discover Bots.** Search for **YellowAnt**, and click on the plu&#x73;**(+)** sign next to the YellowAnt bot

4\. Review the permissions and click on **Add**

5\. Once the YellowAnt bot is added to the Team, YellowAnt will send you a personal message asking you to authorize your Azure account.

6\. Click on **Authenticate** and authenticate your Azure account

7\. You will be taken to the YellowAnt dashboard where you can start integrating applications.

8\. Go back to **Microsoft Teams** and you will have received a help message to get you started.

9\. Let's take YellowAnt for a spin! YellowAnt comes with three pre-built integrations - Stackexchange, WIkipedia and RSS

(i) Go to **Chats** and click on **YellowAnt.**

(ii) Type **wikipedia**

(iii) YellowAnt will show you all commands associated with Wikipedia

(iii) Under **Fetch summary of article,** click on **Run this command**

(iv)YellowAnt will expand the panel and ask for inputs, in this case, the title of the article. Let's put in **Microsoft Teams**

10\. Click on **Submit** to execute the command

11\. YellowAnt will fetch the summary of the title we entered, ie, **Microsoft!**

12\. That is it! This demo is just the tip of the iceberg. # Signup with Email

If you are an individual and do not have a team name, create a new team name and then enter your email id in the subsequent tab. An individual can later add new team members.

If you are in a team, enter your team name and your own email id and signup. This creates a new team wherein new team members can be invited and added.

Once you enter your team name and email id, your first step of registration in completed.

Now for the final step, you need to go to your registered email account and click on “Finish Registration” in the “Complete Registration” email sent to you by YellowAnt. This will lead you to a page wherein after you fill your personal details and create a user id, you are done!

Let's take a look at the step by step process for signing up using Email:

1. Go to [www.yellowant.com](http://www.yellowant.com) and click on "Sign Up using E-Mail" or "Sign Up" in the header.&#x20;

2\. You are taken to a page where you have the option on Slack or Non-Slack teams. You need to enter a custom team name that is going to be your YellowAnt Team Name and your Email. Then click "Join".&#x20;

3\. A confirmation mail is sent on the registering Email ID.&#x20;

4\. Click on the confirmation link which will take you to a form where you can create your account filling your details: name and password. EMail and Team are already filled in based on the previous information.

5\. Click on "Start Using YellowAnt" and you will be taken to the YellowAnt dashboard where you can start integrating applications.&#x20;

# Inviting Team Members

You can also join an existing team using invitation link sent to you by a team member who already uses YellowAnt. Just click on the link and then you will need to go to your registered email account and click on “Finish Registration” in the “Complete Registration” email sent to you by YellowAnt. This will lead you to a page wherein after you fill your details and create a user id, you are ready to use YellowAnt.

Let's look at the process to invite a team member,

1. Go to the settings panel in the YellowAnt dashboard (Read more about the Dashboard)&#x20;

# Managing Dashboard

## YellowAnt Dashboard

YellowAnt Dashboard is the control center of your account. All your settings are available inside the dashboard. You can add new applications, control existing ones and change the settings for them.

## Overview

The overview panel of the YellowAnt dashboard gives you a summary of all your applications and workflows. It is divided into three sections:

**Applications**

In the application section you can see your integrated application along with a few available applications as well.

**Command Workflows**&#x20;

The command workflow section shows all your command controlled workflows being used as well as the template that are available to you from the Marketplace.

**Event Workflows**

The event workflow section shows all your event triggered workflows being used as well as the template that are available to you from the Marketplace.

# Applications

ote: An application on YellowAnt is a connection to an account on an external service with functionalities usable through YellowAnt commands and workflows.

The application panel of the YellowAnt dashboard is the control center for all your integrations.

It is divided into two sections -

**Your Applications**

This section contains all the applications that are already integrated with your YellowAnt account. The integrated applications' cards will have a button called 'Manage' which you can click to enter the settings page of that particular application.

* Change the application invoke name\
  The invoke name is used to call apps with commands. For example, the default invoke name for GMail is 'gmail' and to send a mail, you must execute the command 'gmail send'. If you change the invoke name from 'gmail' to 'email', the corresponding send mail command becomes 'email send'.
* Change notifications settings\
  YellowAnt subscribes you to a number of notification for each account of that application. If you don't wish to receive those notifications you can change them individually from here.

This section contains all the applications that are available as YellowAnt integrations. The application cards have a button called 'Integrate' which on clicking takes you to the integration page of the application. Start integrating applications.

# Command Workflows

**What is a command workflow?**  \
YellowAnt is connected to all your apps so you can create cross application workflows that can be triggered by a YellowAnt command. This means with a simple command you can trigger a chain of events across different apps and even use the subsequent data in the process.

The "Command Workflows" panel of the YellowAnt dashboard is the control center for all your command workflows in use. It is divided into two sections -

# Event Workflows

**What is an event workflow?**  \

This means a certain event of a certain application can trigger a chain of events across other apps and even use the subsequent data in the process. The "Event Workflows" panel of the YellowAnt dashboard is the control center for all your event workflows in use.

It is divided into two sections -

This contains all the workflows that you are currently using. You can go to the workflow management page by clicking on the "manage" button on your workflow cards. In the management tab you can edit the workflow or make other required settings changes.

# Select Teams

Since you can be a part of multiple teams on YellowAnt, there is an option to switch teams within the dashboard. By default you see only one team name and the "Log Out" button.

If you are logged into multiple teams, you can go ahead and choose the one which you want to switch to. You can log out of YellowAnt at any point by clicking on "Log Out".

# Console

The console is the native iterface that YellowANt provides for people who want to use it for the following purposes:

1. Use it as the command center: In case you are not on any chat platform like Slack and Microsoft Teams, you can still use YellowAnt from this console. You can command apps and execute workflows directly from here.
2. Use it as logs: No matter which chat application you are using, everything you execute and use will be logged in the console as well. You can always go here and segregate a specific application to see what has been executed for that application. &#x20;

# Settings

The settings button in the header panel gives you 3 options:

1. Settings
2. Integrations
3. Admin

## Settings

The settings panel lets you update your profile and account settings. *Note: This is the same as "Edit Profile" in the dashboard's side panel.*

You can change your name, time zone and nickname from this panel:

## Integrations

The "Integrations" button takes you to the application management center for all your integrated applications. On the left panel, you can see all your integrated apps and the corresponding setting page for it. When you click on an application, you enter the settings page of that particular application. You can perform two operations from there:

## Admin

The "Admin" panel is only visible to team owners and gives access to a whole lot of actions for administrators to use and cater to the entire team.

Admin Account: Holds the "Team Details" which has the team name. Please note, changing the team name would log out every team member:

Team Members: Holds the list of team members and an option to invite new users by simply adding their email ids:

Payment Methods: This section is used to manage payments for team who are on Basic and Premium plans. The administrator adds a card that is used to pay for YellowAnt:

## **Building on top of YellowAnt?**&#x20;

You will also see these two categories:

**Private To You -** Applications build by you and kept private to yourself only. You can use it with YellowAnt, find it in the marketplace but your team members won't see it until you make it "Private to Your Team".

**Private To Your Team -** Applications build by members of your team and kept private to the team only. You can use it with YellowAnt, find it in the marketplace but other YellowAnt users outside your team won't see it until you make it "Public" and it is verified and tested by the YellowAnt Dev Team as well.


# Adding an Integration

*Note: We would use Asana as an example for the comprehensive steps. You can find out how to integrate specific apps on their respective application page in the marketplace.*&#x20;

1. Go to your YellowAnt Dashboard ([yoursubdomain.yellowant.com](https://github.com/yellowanthq/yellowant-help-center/tree/bdad19066023aa6a8b667a1d6f05b72945b49759/yoursubdomain.yellowant.com)) or head over to the [YellowAnt Marketplace](https://www.yellowant.com/marketplace).<br>

2\. If you are in the dashboard, go to the tab called "Applications" and look for "Asana" under available applications. If you have already integrated the application, you will be able to see it under "My Applications".<br>

3\. If you are in the Marketplace you can find Asana under various categories such as **all** and **project management**. You can also search for this application in the search bar.<br>

4\. Once you find the application either in the dashboard or on the Marketplace click on view. You will be taken to a page where you'll find the integrate option/button. Click on the integrate button.<br>

At this point, there are two possiblities:\
A. Either the application is a simple OAuth authentication like in Asana or GMail.\
B. Or it might require you to authenticate using API token like in Freshdesk or Jenkins.

Steps 5 and 6 show the scenario A for simple OAuth\
Steps 7 and 8 show the scenario B for an API Token authentication (Freshdesk is used as an example)

5\. A. You will be on the integration page which prompts you to add an account to the application. Click add account which takes you to the Asana OAuth page.<br>

6\. Allow the needed permissions and Asana is now integrated with YellowAnt.<br>

7\. You will be on the integration page which prompts you to add an account to the application. Click add account which takes you to the application (here Freshdesk) details page.

8\. Once you fill in the details, the authentication is taken care of, the application would now be integrated with YellowAnt.<br>

# Applications on YellowAnt

1. Go to your YellowAnt Dashboard ([yoursubdomain.yellowant.com](https://github.com/yellowanthq/yellowant-help-center/tree/bdad19066023aa6a8b667a1d6f05b72945b49759/yoursubdomain.yellowant.com)) or head over to the [YellowAnt Marketplace](https://www.yellowant.com/marketplace)
2. If you are in the dashboard, go to the tab called "Applications" and look for the application under available applications. If you have already integrated the application, you will be able to see it under "My Applications".
3. If you are in the Marketplace you can find the application under various categories. You can also search for this application in the search bar.
4. Once you find the application either in the dashboard or on the Marketplace click on view. You will be taken to a page where you'll find the integrate option/button. Click on the integrate button.

7\. To set up YellowAnt notifications, follow these steps.

**Note for project Admins:** If you have admin permissions, YellowAnt will automatically create your Service Hooks for all projects within your organization for which you have admin access. For new projects, you will have to follow the steps below

**Note for non-admins:** If you do not have admin permissions, please follow the steps below to setup your notifications

(i) Go to the project for which you want webhooks. Then go to Project Settings, Service hooks. You can also use the following url for the same:&#x20;

8\. To configure Webhook notifications and for event workflows, copy the Webhook URL from your Jenkins integration settings page. Go to Jenkins and install the Jenkins Notifications plugin from the Jenkins marketplace.

9\. Go to every job from which you need the build notifications. In the **Notification Endpoints,** in the URL Source->URL section, paste the webhook URL copied from the Jenkins-YellowAnt integration settings page. Click on **Save** to finish your Jenkins integration

5\. Once you click on add account, you are taken to the Jira authentication page of YellowAnt where you have to provide some information. The following are the steps to authenticate Jira.

**You need to be a system administrator of the Jira account to be able to create application link (which integrates Jira with YellowAnt). If your Jira server is already registered with YellowAnt, you can skip to the steps starting from Step 7.**  \
\
Note: For this tutorial we will be using a dummy Jira account - ‘private61.atlassian.net’.

(i) To create application link to JIRA, click on settings icon. Select the “Applications” option in the menu.<br>

‘Access Token URL’: ‘<https://www.yellowant.com/market/applications/24/accesstoken/’>

‘Authorize URL’: ‘<https://www.yellowant.com/market/applications/24/authorize/’>

(v) Click continue.

(vi) In the next dialogue box, enter the following details:

Consumer Key - same as done in the previous step.

Consumer name - ‘Yellowant’.

Now, for the ‘Public Key’ we will head to YellowAnt (at <https://www.yellowant.com/market/applications/24/accounts>) and authorize YellowAnt.&#x20;

(vii) Once you are redirected to settings page, fill in your server name and click ‘GO’.<br>

(ix) Fill in the ‘Consumer Key’ and ‘Shared Secret’ (mentioned as ‘Consumer Secret’) you used in Jira and click ‘Generate SSL Public Key’.\
(x) Copy this ‘Public Key’ generated and head back to Jira where you left off.<br>

(xi) Paste the key in ‘Public Key’ field and click continue.\
Your ‘Application Link’ in Jira is created but you haven’t saved server details in YellowAnt yet.&#x20;

(xii) Head back to YellowAnt where you left off. Fill in the passphrase.\
Note: You can edit the server details, only if you have the passphrase.

(xiii) Now after notification shows ‘Server details saved’, click on back and fill in the name of server and click ‘GO’.

5\. For the next step, API access needs to be turned on in the VictorOps portal and an API key should be generated.&#x20;

(i) To enable API access go to the API tab in the settings page of the VictorOps portal. Click on the "Activate API" button. On activating the API an API ID is generated.

8\. VictorOps has webhooks for incident triggered,incident acknowledged and incident resolved. The webhooks need to be created manually.

Steps to create a webhook:

(i)  Go to the settings page in the VictorOps portal.  In settings select outgoing webhooks in the Alert Behavior dropdown.  Click on the add webhook button.

(ii)  Select the event type as "Any-Incident", method as POST, Content Type as application/json

(iii) The webhook URL needs to be given in the "To" box. The webhook url should be of the format `"https://example/webhook/webhook_id"` The webhook\_id is present in the database which should be provided to the user.

(iv) The payload should be the below content

# Commanding Apps

YellowAnt offers you two different ways of controlling your applications. Apart from these, the notifications and automatic updates can be configured through the dashboard and can be changed through commands and dialog boxes as well.

**Using Dialog Boxes**  \
YellowAnt offers you an unique way to manage your applications from chat apps like Slack or through the native console to command applications through dialog boxes. Basically, you type in the application name, which displays a bunch of commands for you to choose from. You choose to run that command, and a dialog box pops up to take any necessary inputs that are required for the particular action.

Let's take a look at this step by step.

Step 1. Depending on the chat platform you are using YellowAnt in, you can execute commands within DMs and channels by simply typing the "appname" example "gmail" in YellowAnt DM or "@yellowant appname" example "@yellowant gmail" in a channel.

Step 2. Choose the function you would like to execute and click on "Run this command" under the chosen function.

Step 3. Fill in the required fields and hit execute.

Step 4. Your function has been executed.

For example, if you want to send an email in Gmail all you have to do is click on "run this command" for the send option and then fill in the inputs, like the person's id you are sending the mail to, what the subject is and what the body is followed by which you just hit enter and the mail is sent right from within Slack/any chat app/native console. Let's see the process below.

Step 1. Type "gmail" in YellowAnt DM or "@yellowant gmail" in a channel.<br>

Step 2. Choose the function you would like to execute (in this case "send" and click on "Run this command" under the chosen function.<br>

**Using simple single-line commands**

The other way of controlling your applications is through simple commands of YellowAnt. It's basically like talking to the application in a chat window. Every command is easy and has a really short learning curve for memorizing them. Well, it's not really memorizing the command because they have a particular format and a very simple approach to using them. If you know what the application does, it's extremely easy to command the application.

For example, to send an email on Gmail this is the command:\
**gmail send subject "email subject" to "recipient email id" message "email body"**  \
\
So, in the above scenario, the command would be as follows:\
**gmail send subject "YellowAnt is here!" to "<rohan@yellowant.com>" message "Hey, check out this cool way to send an email."**

After typing this, as soon as you hit enter the email gets sent.<br>

**Workflows - Events and Commands**

YellowAnt being an ideal platform for automation, has incredibly powerful workflows. There are two types of workflows - command-triggered and event-triggered workflows.You can either choose existing workflows from the workflows marketplace or you can create your own workflows using the workflow builder. The comprehensive documentation for how to create workflows is listed under the main documentation of YellowAnt. In this documentation, let's explore all the possible triggers and actions for every integration. We will also look into some of the combination of applications that can help you create powerful workflows.

Workflows and their execution have been explained comprehensively in the "Workflows" section of the documentation.


# Notifications

YellowAnt also lets you receive notifications and updates on all your applications.When you sign up on YellowAnt and start integrating applications, we provide you with a default notification setting for every application, but through the console, you can configure your notifications and updates however you want them to be. This means you never have to leave a chat application like Slack to stay on top of things. In case you are not using any chat applications, you can use the YellowAnt native console to receive all your notifications in one place.

Using the YellowAnt dashboard you can simply navigate to the particular integration and change the settings for the notifications and updates. It's a very simple process and takes care of personal preferences. Here's how to do it:

1. Find the application in the Applications Panel of the Dashboard
2. Click on "Manage" on the application card&#x20;
3. Scroll down to the notifications settings
4. Toggle on/off depending on what you require for each notification

# Workflows

Since YellowAnt is connected to all your apps, you can create cross application workflows that can be triggered by a YellowAnt command or a background event from one of your apps. These powerful workflows ultimately let you automate a significant chunk of your tasks and take actions with incredible speed thereby reducing your response time to critical events.

Advantages of using YellowAnt Workflows

1. **Command-triggered** - Background running workflows are awesome, but a lot of times you would also want control over when you want to perform a bunch of tasks across applications by manually feeding data or intervening the process. These scenarios are great are perfect for using Command Workflows.
2. **Event-triggered** - Let your work be automated using event-workflows. In these cases, a particular trigger in a certain app initiates different actions across applications.
3. **Enriched with logic** - Add conditions in between steps, perform relational operations and even repeat actions over a certain data set using the various functions available under YellowAnt Workflows.
4. **Data formatting** - Format data based on your requirements in the beginning, in between or towards the end of workflows.&#x20;

# Command Workflows

YellowAnt is connected to all your apps so you can create cross application workflows that can be triggered by a YellowAnt command. This means with a simple command you can trigger a chain of events across different apps and even use the subsequent data in the process. You can trigger a chain of events by executing a simple command on Slack or Microsoft Teams.\
Let's take a took at an example,

A lot of people, first thing in the morning, check their emails, tasks for the day on Asana/Trello, look at their schedule and maybe perform a bunch of other tasks as well (like bugs due to be fixed or checking server statuses). With YellowAnt, you can have a simple command like "startmyday" which fetches all this information in a nice and sequential manner for you.

In this example, a simple command, "workflow startmyday" fetches mails from GMail and tasks due on Asana.

Take a look at another example.\
Let’s create one Slack command that gets a high-priority PagerDuty incident, creates a JIRA issue, sends an email to the Test team, and creates a calendar event for a war room meeting. Normally, this process would take atleast 5 minutes. With this command, it will take 5 seconds.

# Building Command Workflows

In this section, we see step by step how to create a command workflow on YellowAnt. Following which, we will also cover a very common scenario as the example.

1. In your YellowAnt Dashboard, either from the Overview Panel or Command Workflows Panel, select "Add New" or "Create a Workflow" option respectively.&#x20;

2\. This will take you to the "Workflow Builder" page. Select "Create Command Workflow" from the two choices.<br>

3\. Choose a "Collection" in which you want to add the workflow to, Then, give a command name to the workflow. This will be useful in executing the command later from your chat window. Example, we are naming it "startmyday" and in order to execute it later, we would be using the command "workflow startmyday".

Note: A collection is a way of segregating workflows into sets in order to keep them more organized for every individual. This is totally up to the user and can be treated as having different set of workflows where each set forms a collection with some specific set of tasks. Watch out for custom collections for different domains which will soon launch on YellowAnt.<br>

4\. Click on "Add Action in the left panel.

5\. Choose the application from which you want to use as your first "Action". Here, we select "GMail".

In the **Input arguments** section, define the arguments(or variables) that this command will take.&#x20;

4\. Click on **Add a new input argument.** In this case, the arguments will be **id**(Id of the PagerDuty incident).

It is now time to add some actions.

Our first action will be to search for the PagerDuty incident with Id **‘id**’. Our second action will be to create a JIRA ticket from the data that PagerDuty incident command returns.

The get\_incident command takes one argument, i.e the **incident\_number.** This corresponds to the **id** that we will pass in the argument.&#x20;

8\. Click on the **incident\_number** textbox and type **@ .**&#x54;his will bring a dropdown of all the available variable that we will pass in our command. Select **id**.

The next action is to create a JIRA ticket.&#x20;

9\. Click on **Add Action** and select **JIRA.** In the actions dropdown, select **createissue.**

The PagerDuty **get\_incident** command gives us a bunch of data to use to create a new JIRA ticket. Use the **@** symbol to select the variable in the inputs. You can use multiple variables within one input box — YellowAnt automatically concatenates them into one string.

11\. Format your **subject** and **message** using the **@** symbol to get data from the PagerDuty command.

It’s now time to call a war room meeting using Google Calendar.

12\. Click on **Add Action.** Select **Google Calendar.** In the function list, select **create.**

Describe the event name — you can add some data from the previous steps using the **@** symbol. The **event** variable takes the event description in natural language. So you can say something like — **war room meeting for PD escalation @incident\_number in the next 5 minutes.**

# Trigger

A trigger for a command workflow is a command that triggers actions across various applications. The initiation point is when the user executes that command in the chat window or the YellowAnt native console. This means the workflow carries out the entire chain of events only if this command is executed and in no other circumstances. When you start building a workflow, you will be asked to create a command or it gets created with a default name.<br>

Here we see, the default command name is: my-custom-workflow-name\
If you create another one with default name, it just gets appended by a number: my-custom-workflow-name-2

# Collection

A collection is a way of segregating workflows into sets in order to keep them more organized for every individual. This is totally up to the user and can be treated as having different set of workflows where each set forms a collection with some specific set of tasks. Watch out for custom collections for different domains which will soon launch on YellowAnt.

For command triggered workflows, collections also change the way the workflow is executed.

**If you create a new command triggered workflow and do not select/create a collection, by default it gets added to a collection called workflow.**

The way to execute such a command workflow would be to simply type: **workflow command-name**  \
In case you select/add it to a workflow named myset, then the command changes to: **myset command-name**

&#x20;In this case, the workflow command is "startmyday" and it belong to the collection "workflow" so the command to execute is "workflow startmyday".

Example 2:

We see that you can use the same command name, but place it uner different sets i.e. collections and use it in different contexts altogether without one interfering with the other.

This also makes it very easy for the user to view their workflows in the "My Workflows" panel by giving them an option to view them filtered by collections.


# Action

An Action is a task that is performed after the trigger command is executed. For any command workflow to work, there has to be at least one action to it. This is a very simple relationship - the trigger event acts as the stimulus for the next step i.e. the action.

Example: In this case, the trigger is the command and it results in two actions - fetch mails from a label and then also fetch Asana tasks.

Actions can occur based on conditions also, which we will cover in the next part of the documentation.


# Using Action Outputs

One important feature while creating workflows is to use action outputs. Action outputs are the outputs of a previously added action or coming right from the trigger event itself. You can access the action outputs by using "@" in any text field in the subsequent actions.

Example:

In the trigger "incident assignment in Pagerduty", a whole lot of data is sent along with the event for us to use in the subsequent actions.

In this step, we see action outputs from Pagerduty being used to create an email body for GMail. At the same time, we can a whole lot of action outputs coming from GMail's send function as well.

In this step, we have action outs of both GMail and Pagerduty available to us for use. Also, we can see "create a task" on Asana is generating more action outputs that you can use.

# Logical Functions

You can use **concat** and **if-else** formulas in a field.Formulas "concat" and "ifelse" can be applied to a field

# Event Workflows

YellowAnt is connected to all your apps so you can create cross application workflows that can be triggered by an event of any application. This means a certain event of a certain application can trigger a chain of events across other apps and even use the subsequent data in the process.

# Building Event Workflows

In this section, we see step by step how to create an event workflow on YellowAnt. Following which, we will also cover a very common scenario as the example.

1. In your YellowAnt Dashboard, either from the Overview Panel or Event Workflows Panel, select "Add New" or "Create a Workflow" option respectively.\

2. This will take you to the "Workflow Builder" page. Select "Create Event Workflow" from the two choices.\

3. It automatically asks you for a "Trigger" application. The trigger application is the initiation application for the workflow. Here, we choose Pagerduty as the trigger application.\

4. Next step, asks you for a trigger event for the trigger application. That event is when the workflow starts. Here we choose an incident being assigned on Pagerduty as the trigger event.\

5. Choose a "Collection" in which you want to add the workflow to.

7. Choose the application from which you want to use your first "Action". Here, we select "GMail".\

9. Fill in the required parameter field with the values you need. Here, we want a mail sent to the manager whenever a new Pagerduty incident is assigned. We can use values from the first step i.e. the trigger by using "@" in any of the text fields as shown. We can use it to compose mails in GMail or task names in Asana or use this information fields in different ways. The possibilities are endless.\

11. Choose the application from which you want to use as your second "Action". Here, we select "Asana".\

**If you create a new event triggered workflow and do not select/create a collection, by default it gets added to a collection called workflow.**\
**If you add the workflow to a certain collection, it still makes no difference to the way it is executed (unlike command workflows). In event workflows, it is purely a better way to organize your workflows.**

Example 1:

# Using Templates

## Workflow Templates

Workflow templates are pre-made workflows that you can find in the YellowAnt Workflows Marketplace. These workflows are built by:

* YellowAnt Team: Our team is constantly churning out new templates which we feel would be useful to our users. In the marketplace, you will also find collections which are sets of useful workflows bundled together.&#x20;
* YellowAnt Users: Users of YellowAnt also build workflows and can publish it for others to use as well. When publishing the right to use them can be limited to either just their team or make it available to the entire community of YellowAnt users.&#x20;

Steps to start using an existing template:

1. Go to the Workflow Marketplace. You can either go directly from the overview panels of the dashboard or either of the workflow panels in the dashboard.<br>

2\. In the overview panel, under event or command workflows, click on "View All".<br>

6\. You can now view all the available templates. You can also apply application filters to find specific combinations of applications working together in applications.<br>

7\. Click on "Use Template" for whichever workflow you want to start using. It gives you an overview of what the workflow does.<br>

8\. Click on "Use Template" to view it in the builder. You can edit values as needed by you and hit "Save" and it will create a copy of the workflow for you with any updated details that you may have.<br>

9\. After that, it's a regular workflow in your account and you can use it the way you like. It does not impact the template in any way.

## Publishing your Templates

Any YellowAnt can also publish their workflows for their team or anyone in the YellowAnt users community to use. Once you have created the workflow, all you have to do is hit "Publish" in the view and it gets published.

# System Commands

System Commands in YellowAnt let you administer and control your YellowAnt account. YellowAnt has three main system commands:

1. **yellowant**\
   YellowAnt is the system administrator application. It is basically used to fetch and update your user information.\
   You can perform the following actions using this:

   a. Change application invoke name: Used to change the name of the application invoke name from "yellowant" to whatever the user wishes to call it.

   b. Get User First Name: Fetches the first name of the registered user.

   c. Get user time zone: Fetches the time zone of the user.

   d. Set user First Name: Changes the first name of the user.

   e. Set user time zone: Sets the time zone of the user.

2. **help**\
   The help command in YellowAnt lets the user fetch important information about how to use a particular function or perform a certain action. The help command can be used in three ways:

   a. As a means to get assistance with YellowAnt platform. Used as meta-function to get information about their general configuration with respect to YellowAnt.\
   **Command: help**  \
   &#x20;&#x20;

b. As a means to get assistance with a particular application. Using this lets you learn about the functions or actions available for an application/integration.\

3\. **cron**  \
The "cron" system function is used to schedule an action/function execution at a specific time. It can be used to create a one-time executable or a recurring executable. You can schedule a function to be executed at a particular time of the day weekly, hourly or only once.

You start with the command "cron" which gives you three functions:\
a. **Delete a Cron job:** Used to delete already scheduled jobs.  \
b. **List user Cron jobs:** Used to list scheduled jobs of the user.  \
c. **Schedule a Cron Job:** There are multiple ways to schedule jobs on YellowAnt.
